NEOM‑The Line Power Support Case Study
NEOM is located on the northwestern coast of Saudi Arabia, along the Red Sea, covering an area of 26,500 square kilometers – larger than Belgium. It is carefully divided into several zones, each with different focus areas. Among them, The Line, as the core concept, breaks through conventional city designs with its 170‑kilometer linear form, organically integrating living, working, recreation and transportation into a fully integrated, high‑density car‑free city. NEOM is closely linked to Saudi Vision 2030, sharing the ambitious goals of economic diversification, innovative technology, sustainable development, and improving livability and human capital.
The NEOM project is located on the harsh northwestern coastal environment of Saudi Arabia, posing multiple challenges for any power support solution:
1. Extreme climatic conditions
Summer temperatures often exceed 45°C, placing great demands on the generator cooling system.
The coastal location means high salt‑mist concentration in the air, exposing metal components to severe corrosion risks.
Frequent sandstorms in the desert region require high dust protection and sealing performance of equipment.
2. Strict power continuity requirements
The Line has a long construction period and wide‑ranging work sites; any power interruption directly affects critical construction milestones.
During peak construction, multiple zones and trades work simultaneously, causing severe and unpredictable load fluctuations.
As a globally watched landmark project, the client has extremely high expectations for the reliability and professionalism of power support.
3. High technical standards
The project demands higher equipment quality and low‑carbon emissions, complying with international environmental standards.
Equipment must support long‑term stable operation and be backed by complete lifecycle maintenance services.
Solution: 60MW Custom Power Plant
To address the unique requirements of the NEOM project, GEPLEADER developed a customized power support solution based on building a 60MW large‑scale power plant.
GEPLEADER customized an efficient 60MW power plant for the NEOM project, injecting a continuous and reliable power supply into this city of the future. The plant not only supplies the electricity needed for urban construction, but also includes professional maintenance and servicing covering the entire equipment lifecycle, ensuring long‑term stable operation.
1. Silent noise reduction technology
Adopting the core technology of the GEP‑E series – a built‑in multi‑layer suspended sound‑absorbing and noise‑reducing structure – the overall noise level is controlled within 78 dB(A). This meets the project’s pursuit of a high‑quality construction environment and also provides validated data for the product’s use on noise‑sensitive projects such as city centers, hospitals, and commercial complexes worldwide.
2. High‑efficiency cooling system
The unique inclined guided air intake structure effectively increases heat dissipation efficiency and optimizes the air intake method, adapting to the high‑temperature environment of the NEOM region. For the harsh conditions of high temperature and intense sunlight at NEOM, the team specially optimized and adjusted the radiator.
3. High protection rating
The generator units achieve IP54 protection rating, effectively resisting sand, dust, rain and other harsh environmental factors – fully matching the natural conditions of the Red Sea coastal area where NEOM is located.
4. Intelligent control system
Equipped with an advanced control management system that supports remote monitoring and automatic start/stop, enabling real‑time tracking and precise regulation of the power plant’s operating status, ensuring efficient and stable operation of the power supply system.
