The Kilshane 300MW gas-fired power plant in Dublin, Ireland, is located in a coastal area less than one kilometer from the shoreline. The project is invested by Ireland's state-owned electricity company ESB and constructed by a consortium of Ansaldo Energia and Cobra. The nearshore environment presents extremely high salt spray concentrations, imposing stringent requirements on corrosion resistance and protection ratings of all electrical equipment. GEPLEADER successfully won the bid for the complete power equipment supply package for this project.
Project Challenges
1. Nearshore high-corrosion environment: The plant is situated less than one kilometer from the coast. Even standard stainless steel rapidly corrodes under continuous salt spray exposure. All exposed equipment must possess corrosion resistance far exceeding conventional standards.
2. Technical bottleneck of IP65 protection rating: The project required the diesel generator set to achieve an IP65 protection rating. However, generator sets require substantial airflow for combustion and cooling. Balancing sufficient air exchange with complete sealing presented a significant engineering challenge.
Solutions
GEPLEADER's technical team leveraged 3D modeling and collaborative engineering to overcome each technical hurdle:
IP65 sealing system: Redesigned the airflow architecture with a multi-layer sealed air intake and exhaust system incorporating labyrinth structures and motorized louver designs, ensuring the unit achieves IP65 protection rating in both standby and operating modes.
Full-process quality inspection: Close collaboration with all equipment manufacturers ensured every component was custom-designed to the most stringent specifications, with full performance testing completed prior to shipment.
Project Outcomes
On May 6, 2026, the project officially received the Final Acceptance Certificate. All equipment supplied by GEPLEADER passed the joint acceptance inspection by the owner and supervision team on the first attempt, earning high recognition from ESB and the main EPC contractor.
